Default Help! Broke my timing belt!! :(

Ok, so i know that i was stupid not to check it out for wear and tear when i bought it. I just took the guy at his word that he replaced it. It is now clear that he did not. Anyway, I'm wondering if there is anyway that i don't need to rebuild my head, or is it pretty much standard for valves to bend and mayhem to ensue when timing belts break.

Thanks

Most of the time word of mouth is crap. Same thing happened to my friends car, word of mouth his timing belt was changed. Take off the cover and found out the OEM Honda belt was still there, brittle with lots of cracks in it.
In what fashion did your timing belt broke?, was it idleing when it broke, normal operation, or heavy load? Well, to determine if your head has bent valve is to take it apart or just put on the timing belt and do a compression check -really recommend the basic check first, if the compression test results is really low -e.g. 150, 20, 145, 155 in one or more cylinders then taking apart the head for a rebuild or replacing the head is required.

Yeah the belt was very worn with lots of cracks in it. It broke under normal operation. I figured i would probably have to do the compression test to check the valves, but in the intrest of saving time (and work) i thought i'd post to see if anyone didn't bend their valves. that way i could not have to put it all back together, test it, and take it apart again. I used a caliper the check the rocker arm hights, and i don't think that any of the valves are all the way open so *fingers crossed*. Thanks for the insight.

9.9 out of 10 broken timing belts bend valves.

Yes. Use periods so we can understand you.

You mean impact gun?

300 lb of what? pressure? PSI stands for pounds per square inch.....a 1200 dollar air compresser pushing 300 pounds at 250 pounds per square inch. Makes no sense to me.

300 ft/lbs of torque from his impact gun is what he probably is trying to say.

Lower cam? Do you mean crankshaft pulley bolt? That bolt is B to take off. Impact gun sometimes doesnt do it. My impact pushes 350 ft/lbs of torque. You gonna need the pulley holder tool and a 6 foot long extension on your breaker bar to break that bolt loose.

I mis-placed mine. Can someone buy me a new one? TIA

a friend of mine broke a timing belt at idle, and his valves were fine car runs great to this day. but that is a rare case more than likely they are bent, but it would be worth checking.
