Default Help after clutch install

I just got done doing a clutch install in my brother's 2000 Civic Si. Everything was going smoothly and I was filling the transmission fluid (Honda MTF) through the VSS hole.

Loosing sunlight and in a rush, I accidently crushed the clip on the top of the VSS. I put the clip back on as best as I could but when I test-drove the car, I had no reading on the speedometer.
Also, VTEC will not engage. I have not checked the oil level yet, but could the faulty VSS also cause VTEC not to function?
And finally, does the VSS have to be in any paticular orientation when reinstalling?

Thanks for your help.

I don't understand why you removed the sensor to begin with. I have never removed it from the transmission during a clutch install; let alone use that hole to fill it back up.

There are designated drain and fill plugs in the transmission.

I don't know if a damaged VSS would cause VTEC not to engage or not. Do you have a CEL on?

To add oil through the VSS hole is one of the fastest ways to fill the tranny...thats the way I've done it for years. If the ECU doesn't see speed, it won't engage V-tec

Thanks.
I am going to the junk yard tomorrow, happen to know what other models use the same VSS? I am guessing most 96-00 Civics use the same one.
