Default Heavy steering after disabling power steering

Hi
I changed the power steering system of my Integra '91 to CRX manual steering.

I understand it should be heavier than power steering but the system is now much heavier than the CRX steering, too. Can there be a problem or is there anyway of making it lighter ?

I mean "harder to turn the steering wheel"

Yah the same feel as if your car was off when it had power steering. When you're stopped it'll be really hard, then the faster you go the easier the steering gets.

Nope. Didn't you think about this before you did the swap? TBT I hate my hatches lack of power steering when trying to park or maneuver under 5MPH. But at speed it's solid and responsive.

That's the whole point of power steering, to help you turn while stopped. What did you think was going to happen?

Seriously. You took the power out and not you have to manhandle it. Makes sense to me. Again. What did you THINK was supposed to happen? I'm not giving up my power steering for anything.

Well, I drove non-power steering vehicles long years ago, and I thought this would be not so bad
Maybe I don't remember well the old days hehe
Anyway, I did this to make it much more responsive when speeding.
And now it's very good.

As you said : responsive.

All you need to do is siphon out some fluid.

Honestly, just take out some and make sure you bleed the air out of the system. I would highly suggest putting a breather in-line as well.

Depends on the size and width of the wheel. I drove a friends Geo metro with manual steering and it felt likeit had power steering. That's because it had like 13inch steelwheels and skinny tires like165. The tire contact is significantly less.

Check your tire pressure too. If the tires are low it will me much harder to turn.

Wheel diameter and tire section width do not play any role, whatsoever, in the size of the tire's contact patch.

Generally, cars with power steering run a different steering ratio. A de-powered power steering rack will be harder to turn than a non-power rack.

To reduce steering effort at low speeds, reduce the caster and increase the scrub radius. However, high speed stability and control under some emergency maneuvers will suffer.

u-turns in traffic are a bitch. But my car is for road coarse and when moving I don't miss it a bit.

The reasons to disconnect the system are the same reasons many of us wish cars still came without it in the first place, increased road feel, decreased pumping losses, reduction in points of failure for a completely unnecessary system.

so you added a manual rack so you could get more feeling when you speed on public roads..

hmm, that's not dumb at all. The world could always use one more pieced together integra because race car...
