Default headgasket question

my freind is changing the headgasket on my car today and he was telling me about just using one layer of the headgasket instead of the 3. he said that would bump up compression a little bit and make more power. question is has anyone of u guys done this and how well has this worked. he has done it to his car and said it sealed perfectly but also his car hasnt been beaten on since he just finished building the block.

experiences and answers will be greatly appriciated

It's possible to do, and people have done it, but I'd personally buy a made 1-layer gasket (Mugen comes to mind) and use that instead of ripping a layer out of a used stock 3-layer gasket...who knows how long it will last.

the only car i seen that had this was one of our freind's car that had a 13.5:1 compression motor and he ran it hard every time at the races. the thing i am worried about is how long will it last like that???
