Well if that all straight, how is your valve lash? When you installed the new head did it have cams or did you use them from a different head? If you don't have the right clearance there it might be holding your valves open just a tiny bit all the time.

i used the cams and cam gears from my old head. i did check the valve lash, but i have doubt that i even did it correctly.

If the cam timing is correct, set it to tdc and check the clearance on the exhaust valves. Should be able to get at least a .006 feller gauge in there.

Its possible that bent an exhaust valve or two when the cam timing was off. This would cause the engine to burn some of the mixture down the pipes. The same thing would happen if the lash was zero or less(holding ex valve open).I assume you set the initial ignition timing (usually 16 deg.).

besides taking the head apart, is there any way to check and see if the valves are in fact bent? that'll suck if i have to, seeing as how i just put the damn thing on.....

Do a compression test.If its much less than around 160# you probably have a bent valve or the cams out off time.

Its definetely overheating. I would check your whole exhaust setup. Maybe the muffler or catalic coverter or Resonator might have some build up in it. Also is your engine fan running when its red? If it gets that hot under there Im pretty sure the fan would turn on. After turning red, did your oxygen sensor get messed up?

i don't have a cat, and ever since i put on my headers and had the exhaust done, i didn't have an o2 sensor on it...as far as the engine fan, i didn't or haven't seen it come on when the was running...

You are definately running rich, or like someone said

I've seen this on many turbo cars.

check to see if a code is being thrown since your not running and 02 sensor, Take off header and double check that theres nothing clogged, finally check that ignition timing is correct, even if cams and crank are aligned the ignition timing can be far off....

this maybe a dumb question...how do you check the ignition timing? i never had to do it before, let alone remember reading it in a super street or something...

You need to borrow or buy an ignition timing light http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr...=TOOL

It's probably one of the least expensive ones available and works great

dont go to this mechanic anymore, he is taking full advantage of you whether you want to believe me or not.

and there is something seriously wrong with the headers glowing red like that.

good luck

Looks like a lean running motor. I would up the fpr if you have one. Check the fuel filter as well.

well i do now. my fuel pressure is at 40 when at idle. and i went ahead and changed the fuel filter. i tried to check the timing with the gun, but the gun didn't seem to work, unless i used it wrong....
