Default header questions

ok, i have two questions, they are appearance-concerned but tech related so i posted here.

1) on a B16, will i harm my engine compartment by not using the heatshield on the header?

2) would those high-temp engine paints hold up on a header? is there a certain degree rating i should be looking for? because i know they're hot, but i just dont know how hot

thats about it,
thanks!

taking the heat shield off won't harm anything. i doubt there is a paint that could withstand the temps on a header.

1: nope
2: you might want to look into getting your header jet hot coated...not only is it functional, but it looks sweet too. check it: http://www.jet-hot.com

hey thx alot for the replies guys. i submited a form to jet-hot.com and i recieved an e-mail with details. i found it very interesting. it seems expensive at first, but it seems to be a decent value. here's what they had to say if anyone is interested:

I will send you our full information package to get you all the coating
benefits in greater detail. It will not turn colors like chrome or
stainless. Also it lowers under-hood temperatures by 40 degrees, keeps the
pipes 25% cooler and gets you 1-3% extra horsepower. Of course, it's highly
rust resistant as well - 140x better than paint. Because of that we expect
it to increase part life be 10x or more.

It would run $165 to coat your parts inside & out with our Sterling finish.
Add $20 for the blue. That price includes all necessary cleaning as well,
unless they are chrome or nickel plated. We'll need them here for 5-10 days
plus shipping time. Return shipping would be $22.

All parts receive a 3 year unlimited guarantee that covers chipping,
peeling, cracking, discoloration, rusting - anything. New parts also get a
lifetime rust through warranty as well.
