Default Header Fittment Q:

would it cause a problem if the Downpipe of the header was snug againt the corner of the Oil pan?

when i test fit my header that i bought (custom job) the corner of it is quite snug against the oil pan. i have been quoted $50 to have a 1/2 inch extention put in below the collector, but if i dont have to i dont want to spend it ya know.

Naturally there will be some rattling. Plus I think that some of the heat from the header will dissipate into the oil pan (not good). Is it possible to pull the oil pan and modify it slightly? Also try and get some of that heat insulation crap and put on the oil pan in that area.

i would rather spend the $50 then mod the oil pan.

not sure on this, but doesnt the engine torque back and forth under even normal (none of us on h-t drive "normal") driving conditions? might having ur piping resting on ur oil pan a bit cause some unwanted stress in the piping? i know theres a flex pipe down there, and the motor is stiffly attached to the header, but still... just a thought...

otherwise, in answer to your problem, would not heat-wrapping the exhaust - a little extra in the area that makes contact with the oil pan - not pad it enough to where minimal heat transfer would occur, and it might not rattle? give it a try

yeah, the engine does move back and forth in between shifting and such... there might be some stress to the piping unless you have aftermarket mounts. i think you should spend the 50 dollars to get the extension, don't wanna risk all that heat from the piping transfering into your oil pan... oil's hot enough already when the engine's running.
