Default Head gasket Replacement question

So I did a leakdown test and I have blown hg. So I am getting stuff together to replace it and haven't found info on the headstuds. I have the helms manual and it doesn't mention anything about replacing them. Is replacing them necessary or people do it just because they are in there. Any info would be helpful.

always replace them! they are stretch bolts and can't be re-used

They should not be re used once removed. SOHC 4dr is right. Pick up a set of ARP head bolts or OEM.

Yeah I thought it seemed like they were stretch bolts in the instructions but it never said anything about replacement. Ok I guess I will go ahead and order ARP headstuds. Thanks for the info.

yes head bolts are stretch bolts, yes I know they are not supposed to be reused, but I dont replace them, hell half the bolts on your car are NOT supposed to reused....if I have had the head off numerous times then I would, or if it is a high horsepower build, but otherwise I dont......and Im the type of guy that will NOT reuse a head gasket, like some people do on HT

Yeah well I have to replace my headgasket, it's got a leak in the #1 cylinder. I just don't want to have to replace it again because of the headstuds.

The head bolts should never be reused as mentioned several times that they are torque to yeild bolts or stretch bolts. These bolts are permantely stretched once used and using them a second time can reduce it relaibilty and closer to its shear point. It is important to keep the bolt elesticity and as you stretch the bolt it trys to return to its original size which keeps a great ordeal of tension.

If reusing torque to yeild bolts you loose elesticity and the baseline torque specifications and angles become useless for the bolt at this point.

As mentioned oem replacement bolts of arp or equivalent head studs would be perfect.
