Default head gasket question

question for anyone whom can answer

a friend of mine has a LS VTEC motor and when he took off the valve cover found the oil milky like when the head gasket goes...but here is the thing, its not everywhere in the valve train and the oil in the oil pan looks normal, like nothing has happened...in other words leads me to believe that the head gasket is still ok. he put the motor together in the summer so the motor does have a few miles on it and the oil has been changed since...

and ideas on what you think it might be??? pulling the head is not that big of a deal but i told him to hold off till out can find out more. i dont think its the head gasket but i really have no clue what else it might be

opinions are welcome and thanks for the help in advance.

It could be from the oil not reaching operating temp. Mine looked like that just recently, it scared the hell out of me. Check the coolant for oil, check the exhuast for smoke, ETC.
