Head Bolts
I know as a general rule of thumb to never use head bolts after they have been used once. A friend on mine told me that use can use Honda head bolts a few times. I just wanted everyone's opinion on this, because I'm about to replace the headgasket on a friends car and the head bolts have be used.
Thanks!
Thanks!
You have to figure this will probably be one of the last times the head is coming off, right? Why not replace the bolts so you have no worries down the road. I'd say if you're going to do the job, do it right. Replace the head bolts.

can i reuse the head bolts form my blown jdm 96 type r motor? i already took the head off and have the bolts set aside and i am bolting my b16 head to a gsr block and i was wanting to know if i could reuse those head studs? or do i have to buy new arp studs?
also will the type r head studs work for a b16 head on a gsr block? or do i have to get another set for like a gsr application?

I don't have a problem at all with reusing head bolts... Make sure they are within spec and you'll be fine... ARP head studs are cool for high compression or boosted motors but there's no reason for them unless you either want extra strength, the cool looks while the head is off, or you just wanna replace your OE ones... As long as you're using a B18C/1/5 block go ahead and use your ITR head bolts... If you gauge them and they're out of spec, just toss some ARP head studs in... Peace
thats great save me some money. but u mentioned "unless im running high compression" well i will be running 11:8:1 with this setup now can i still use the head studs? lol
Yea, 11.8:1 is cool... I should have made that clearer, I normally consider ~12.5:1+ as a high compression motor... Stock head bolts will be absolutely fine for you so long as they are within spec...
