Head/Block oil restrictor not installed!!
I did a search and no info was found. I am finishing up my current build (b18b). I wanted to know if any damage can occur if the head/ block oil restrictor was not re-install. I know the purpose of it ,but will it make that much of a difference. I figure it will allow more oil to the head. Engine builders, please give me your thoughts. thanks
NJINBUILDR:
I have an 86 Prelude with the 2.0 A20A2 FI engine that I bought used. I overheated from a busted coolant hose. and ultimately a blown head gasket.
I tore it down and did the required rebuild. Since that incident I have often wondered If this block required an oil restrictor going to the head. Since I saw none on teardown, none went back on rebuild.
I notice occasionally with the engine sitting for short periods, white oil smoke in clouds briefly coming from the exhaust on startup and the evidence of high pressure in the valve cover from oil leaks around the valve cover gasket down the front side of the engine.
I have tried to sense the presence of vaccum coming from the oil filler during idle, but it is hard to tell if I indeed have a low level vacuum present without a Magehelic gauge. All of the PCV system has been changed out, including valve, hoses, separator hose and the separator has been cleaned and tested for leaks. Can you help me with my diliema? I am tired of spots under my lude and topping off the oil every 500 miles or so.
