Default Harmonic Damper really needed?

Is a harmonic damper really needed when making much more power than stock. I see some ppl use it and others dont use it. So is it actually worth the purchase? and does it really protect the bearings that much?

Yes it, It protects the crank from vibrations and keeps the cranki spinng straight

You could put an underdrive pulley on instead but, id stay with the harmonic damper

1st, its required by NHRA if you run quicker than 10.99.
2nd, its about high engine speed, not necessarily high horsepower. the dampened pulleys are far superior to the stockers and really decrease internal vibration.

Get one of the aftermarket fluid damper crank pulley.
