Harmonic Balancer needed? LS/vtec
Is a ATI or fluidamner still needed with after market rods and pistons if the rev limit is no higher than 8500? I know Aftermarket internals changes the harmonic vibrations of an engine in upper rpms. but I dont know if the stock pulley will suffice for my rev limit.
Alot of views and no answer, anyway for anyone who might find this topic in the future. it turns out Harmonic Vibrations are not a concern with aftermarket internals at 8500 rpms. the stock pulley provides enough dampening at that level.
well what about above 8500, my stock balancer had a chip taking out of the outside pulley but it isnt being used so I just cut it off with the help of a brake lathe...now Im rebuilding the motor and I have alot of money into it and I dont want to risk future problems to save a little cash....
Personally I feel if you have alot of money into it then getting a fluid or ati isnt anything much to secure your investment, the reason I started this thread is because despite aftermarket guts, my setup is pretty conservative and I wanted to be sure. I probably waont even rev past 8k.
