Default Hard to engage 1st gear

For quite a while I've been having trouble getting 1st gear in my 90 integra while the car is stopped. It just feels like it's blocked or something, and I haven't tried to force it. If I just put it in another gear and then go back to 1st, or it the car is rolling it's usually okay, but it happens most times I come to a stop.

I meant to replace the tranny fluid this summer but didn't get around to it. Could it be old fluid, bent fork maybe....

This is the original tranny with 110k on it, but it is in otherwise good condition, very little grinding.

Sounds like the infamous reverse issue as well.

I always shift into 2nd gear then into the gear it wasn't wanting to go in (mostly reverse)

Change your fluid, 20 min max

sounds like a syncro to me! had this happen on my 94 tranny, just wouldn't go into any gear though...if its a cable tranny it could be the clutch cable...

same here except first to reverse, seems to line the syncros up better and slide in...

by the way, where is smalltown toda?

Clutch cable... hmm I hadn't thought of that. Well, at least now when I have the time and facilities I have some things to look at.

Thanks for the responses.

My integra does but I think that's because there are no synchros for reverse in hondas.

If it is not grinding, I dont think its the synchroes. I have the same deal on my 99 Si. First and second dont grind at all, but kinda stiff going in. I justed had my tranny flushed a few weeks ago and its still there. I have heard people mention the shifter fork and throw out bearing but I am still not sure. Probably wont know until I get in there and put a new clutch and LSD in.

Yeah, if I change the fluid and tighten the clutch cable and it doesn't fix it, I think the next culprit would be a shift fork.
