I'm looking for a used h23 to buy and i've found one. This guy says that the engine makes knocking noises because he failed to change the oil. What the hell could he be talking about? He says it's something in the block. I asked him if it sounded like detonation. Would a spun rod bearing cause this? I'll be rebuilding the motor anyway so if it's something like a piston ring or broken rod that's not a problem. He also said that he tried to take the motor apart but couldn't get the head off (does this help address the problem with the engine or the guy trying to take it apart?) the engine has 123,000 miles on it and he says the head's in good condition. the price is great so i want to buy it but i don't want to spend the money then open up the block and find a hole through it. any suggestions?
::cliffs notes:: h23 making knocking noises, may be due to "failure of changing oil"

he forgot to change the oil and on top of that he couldnt take off the head? well the guy sounds like an idiot. the pistons are probably f*cked. for sure you will have to take the motor apart. sounds like a good project depending on how much the guy is selling the engine for and how long he drove it without oil. good luck

yeah, the guy does sound like an idiot but for 200 bucks can you go wrong? What's the most that can be wrong with the engine. would a rebuild cure it.
