Default h22 HYBRIDS out there...i need some advice

for you guys that have the h22 swap into your civic, can you tell me what you regret about having this motor in your car? and if your satisfied with it, i would like to know why.

im doing some research (i want to do a swap in my EG) and i found that this motor produces more power than the GSR. on top of that its cheaper. ive already heard about the understeer and the broken axles people have a problem with. but what if the motor is kept stock? i know there has to be axles out there to handle this power.

btw...im not a roadracer, just a fan.

well i can say that the whole understeer thing is nothing but BS....a close friend of mine has a h22 in his civic and when he let me drive it..i was surprised that it basically drove like a stock civic.....so umm yea thats my .02

damn i didnt even think of using the search

anyways, how would you guys compare the H22 swapover for $2000 to the GSR swapover for $2500? im trying to understand why more people dont do the H- series swap.

What most people forget is that you need more parts to make the H22 work in a civic. For $2k, it's not like it all comes complete.

You need:
Mount kit $700
Shifter Linkage from 94-97 Accord $150
Reworked GSR engine harness - $350
Longer battery to starter wire - $30
90-93 Integra axles - $75/ea w/ core exchange
90-93 Accord midshaft - $50 used
94-95 GSR P72 ECU - $250
Reprogram ECU to H22 specs - $150

Then you have to remove the passenger side tranny mount - Grind, cut & hammer

Drill 2 holes in firewall for shifter cables

Extend the fuel line or replace the fuel rail

Cut & trim the radiator fan housing / radiator fan

If you want powersteering-
Replace p/s hose from rack to pump with Prelude/Accord p/s hose.

There's more, but I can't remember it all right now.

I guess it all depends on the swap you get and the chassis you put it in. Mine was not as expensive as B18C-EJ1 listed, but its not as simple or cheap as a b-series swap. I did my complete '95 h22a swap into a '97 civic CX all myself, and here's what happened:

My mount kit was the race mount kit, and it ran $625. This is the HCP kit and includes the 4th mount, a front support bar (very nice IMO)

If you get the complete swap, it will come with the cable shift linkage. I used the prelude linkage that came with my swap, works great.

I used my stock civic harness and added what I needed (not very much, depending on the ecu you will use). I don't see why you would need a reworded GSR one, your stock one will be fine. I added: VTEC stuff, knock sensor, EGR solenoid and EGR lift sensor (only needed if you use th prelude ecu).

On the 6th gen civic with the HCP kit, there is no mount cutting involved. Its easy to cut one small hole to run the shifeter cable, and my hole is under the car. You'll have to cut a plate to cover the hole that the stock shifter goes into the chassis... real easy ($10 for plate (home depot) + a little caulk did the trick)

You'll have to extend the fuel line if you get a JDM h22... I believe the US ones have the fuel feed on the correct side. Extending costs $5 (a foot or 2 of fuel line + some connectors)

You can use the intermediate shaft that came with the swap, and I ordered enw axles for an h22 civic from marty (www.raxles.com) for I believe $340 total shipped.

You can use the stock prelude ecu without any problems... I did before my hondata. That's actually what I woud recommend unless you're going standalone. you just have to make sure and wire in the EGR stuff if you don't want a CEL.

My radiator housing and fan fit percetly without modification. No p/s for me
