Default H22 and H23 bore question?!!!!

I have an H22 accord and i bought an h22 block to build....i also bought an H23 crankshaft for the longer stroke...i am planning on boring it .020 over. this would make the bore in cubic inches....3.445 (stock is 3.425)....
I put in the formula (bore x bore x stroke x .7854 x 4-[#of cylinders]) it said that it would only make it a 2.28 (2.3) Litre. Is this right? is this even going to be worth it? I don't know....give me some feedback!!!!!!!!

you might lose some stability in higher rev if going with the h23 crankshaft, so that mean your going to need torque in the lower rpm range, so if I were you, bore it more, same price!!!

what do you want to do with it?? n/a or FI??

What you are speaking of is the H23 VTEC motor.

It will give you the exact same displacement as a straight H23, since the H23 and H22 share the same bores.

Think about it as putting a race head on the H23 block. Or as an H22, just w/ more displacement.

It will work fine. Use H22 pistons on H23 rods.

Search for H23 VTEC in the Prelude forum, there is a huge thread devoted to this motor.

BTW, I built an H23 VTEC for my Prelude

I am building it for all motor/nitrous. i already have a a 75 shot on it and its working great. i figure with a stronger bottom end i could run a 125shot.....what do u think? too much?

There's a girl on Preludonline.com that's runnin a 125 shot on a stock H22. I wouldn't advise it, though.

I will be runnin a 100 shot on my H23 VTEC. With a built motor, you can go much higher.

How big of a shot do you think would be safe on a built block....cuz i'm fully building it?

First, start thinking in Metric . . . . Stock bore is 87mm. You can overbore .25mm on the stock sleeves. Any more & you need a resleeve.

87.25mm bore X 95mm stroke = 2,272cc's --> a whopping increase of 13 cc's over the stock bore.

hmmm if he wants to overbore he won't have a straight H23, almost!!!

btw the h22 rods are longer than the h23 rods( .059" longer), so watch out for the clearance, don't even know if you won't hit the head with this would depend on the C-H of the piston you'll get!!

another btw, .02" overbore is a .5mm overbore

depends on your fuel management/tuning!!!

if you are forging the internal, good tuning and you are not overboring that much, you can go pretty much high on shot.

but if you go with the h22 rods with the h23 crank, watch for the clearance, I'm sure they won't fit!! maybe just get some custom piston that got .059" less C-H or play with the headgasket.

i heard that if i use H23 rods with H22 pistons it'll work fine...is that true?

yup, using the H23 rods with H22 piston, evrything will fit. but the only diff between them is the C-H and the compression.

BUT wach it for the clearance, you have tw0 piston with 2 different C-H, so use a thicker headgasket because with that setup the top of the piston WILL be higher than the block!!

its obiously not good to have the piston go higher than the block, so is a bigger headgasket gonna stop this from happening or what else would i have to do?

thicker headgasket will just add clearance between the head/piston.

to prevent that, take h23 piston or just take a piston with less C-H (custom one)
