Default Guage questions. Autometer

I wanted to get a a few guages

Air fuel ratio
oil pressure
fuel pressure
water temp
and oil temp.

Should i get electrical ??? I dont know much about guages, but electrical seems easier to hook up.

the a/f autometer gauge is worthless, its just eye candy. If you want some functional gauges that actually help, check out some of the other gauges, but real a/f gauges are expensive by the way. If you just want eye candy though, then the autometer a/f gauge does the trick

Use electrical gauges!

As for an Air/Fuel gauge; check out what Knorskog (spelled wrong) has. I believe that they are one of the few that are a sweep type and not just a bunch of colored led's

I think the electrical fuel pressure gauge is costly, but the mechanical one is difficult to install due to requiring an "isolator" (to prevent running pressured gas inside the car).

Get a volt meter. Not an Amp-meter! There are trade off's here, but a Volt meter is easy to hook up and you don't have to run your main electrical lines through the firewall and to the gauge.

As for the Water Temperature and Oil Temperature gauges, think about this; you could use just one gauge and have a switch that "looks" at the two different sending units. (I've got a 64 Chevelle and did this to monitor engine water temperature or transmission fluid temperature) Normally you would monitor the water temperature looking for a problem.

If you use a mechanical oil pressure gauge, you have to run a pressurized oil line into the car. The hose and fittings that come with the gauges is just plain BAD! Plan on getting a hose made up of Stainless Steel hose. This can really add to the cost due to both the cost of the hose and also the adapters that will be required.
