Default GSR with Type R valve train

If i was to put type r cams and valve train in my gsr would I be able to chip it and up my redline? If so by how much? What do you think my gains would be? I wouldn't want to rev out of my power band, so what could I do to up my redline but do it properly so that I am benifiting from it? My goal is to run mid 14's. With itr cams, valve train, and exhaust do you guys think this is achievable? Also what type of ecu would work best for this setup? I know I could get a hondata and tune it myself but I don't have access to a dyno. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

well you could safely run up to a higher RPM that's for sure but redline on a ITR is about 8500 while GSR is about 8K. well first lets look at some specs

Following Cams Measured at 1mm of lift:
Integra Type-R(Through 1999 Spec)
Int-240 dur. / 11.5mm lift
Exh-235 dur. / 10.5mm lift

Integra GS-R
Int-274 dur. / 10.7mm lift
Exh-276 dur. / 9.6mm lift

Now if you compair the 2 you will notice that you have a higher cam lift then the GSR cams and a high duration. If you don't know what duration is it means how long the cam leaves the actual valve open.

I would stick with your P72 and have it chipped just make sure you have a FPR. 14's woldn't be that hard with that setup at all. As far as tuning the only thing you would be able to adjust is fuel pressure, timing, on the butt dyno.

If I were you I would invest in a V-AFC, and try to tune it on the butt dyno. If you don't know how you can always take it to a local shop

So could you tell me how I would benifit from a heigher redline? What would my gain be if I put in a itr valve train? I just don't want to screw up my car and do somthing to it that is pointless? Any thoughts would be appricated. Thanks.

benefititting from a higher redline really depends on what cams you decide to use and how high you'd like to rev. All Type-R cams powerband usually dies off around 8500-8800rpm, but can easily+safely go to up to 9K, even on stock GSR valvetrain. If you wanna rev past 9K then you should look into bigger cams, such as Toda Spec B's/Skunk stage 2's/etc. But remember, when you go into bigger profile'd cams, compression levels need to be raised in order to fully benefit from large-life/duration cams as well as upgrading the valvetrain.

If you stick with R cams, you should be fine up to 9K. I would suggest picking up some Ti retainers and R valvesprings to aide the camshafts. If you want R valves & retainers, the R exhaust valves + retainers are exactly the same as your GSR exh. valves + retainers so you don't have to waste your $$$ on those items. Whoever, the intake valves are different, but I'm not sure if you really want those (yet) as you'll have to completely remove your head in order to have them installed; but installing v.springs & retainers, you don't necessarily have to seperate the head from block. Not to mention the R intake valves are blue printed to the R head which is ported and I'm sure your GSR head is pretty much stock, right ?

[shamelessss plug]
btw, I reprogram ecu's - hit me up if you're interested
