Default gsr transmission case ??? HELP

1995 acura integra gsr

I have a gsr trans that needs a new tail case. I got a used tail from a friend and he said something about shimming the two cases. I was wondering if you guys could tell me exactly what needs to be done in order for the new case to fit properly. Thanks

Mainshaft clearance is checked by installing the mainshaft alone fully assembled into the transmission side of the case, without the thrust shim/oil guide plate. You will need a straightedge and a good caliper to check the clearance. After you put it in the case, install the small washer (not the spring washer) onto the mainshaft, and place the straightedge on the case over the washer, and measure the clearance between the straightedge and the washer.

You will need to make another measurement in the same manner with the clutch housing side, across the input shaft bearing. Place the straightedge over the inner race of the ISB, and measure the gap between the straightedge and the inner race. Add the two numbers you have together, and minus 0.93mm from your two measurements, and that is the thrust washer size you will need.

You should also measure mainshaft endplay using a dial gauge, and a clamp around the mainshaft that pulls it upward to confirm that the right clearance is obtained. After installing the new thrust shim and oil guide plate, install the mainshaft and place the washer, and spring washer onto the end of the mainshaft, and bolt the clutch case to the transmission case. Then you will need a clamping tool to grab the mainshaft, and a bolt to go through it and pull the mainshaft upward, to determine the clearance. (since the clearance is spring loaded.) Measure the clearance with a dial indicator on the end of the mainshaft. The total mainshaft endplay spec is .11mm to .18mm. If it is out of spec, you will need to recheck your two measurements, and get the right thrust washer.

You will also have to shim the differential, by placing it in the case and bolting it down, and using a feeler gauge to determine the clearance between the diff and the shim. You will need to tap the diff to its bottom most point to get a correct reading. The clearance for the diff is 0.1mm or 0.004". After installing it check it again to make sure its within specs.
