Default GSR p72 ecu

I have a p72 ecu on my ls/vtec and the rev limiter is in between 7k and 8k. Pass 7 under 8. Is the normall or what? Well anyway, I bought the car from someone that got it tuned already and the funny thing is on the dyno sheet, it cuts out after 8k. I will have to check the vtec controller and see how high the rev limiter is at. But the question is, if I get my ecu chipped will I have to get the car tuned again? if so is there anyway I can get away without tuning it again? Also for those who want to know why I want to rev higher than 8k is because the cams I have.

Why would you rev a ls/vtec pased 8k anyways. The bottom end wasn't designed to rev that high, and unless you have some modifications done, your looking at a spun rod bearing, or worse. I imagine that the rev limit was put there as insurance by someone who knew what they were doing.

Motor is ls/vtec with civic type r pistons, balenced polished/shot peened rods, balanced ls crank, crower valve train.

if the car is already tuned and all you want to do is raise the rev limit with a chip you can and you dont have to re-tune

Your tach may simply be off a little bit. what year and market did your P72 come from?

I know auto B16 ECU's red-line lower than manual versions, I don't know if a auto option was given with the JDM GSR's. I doubt it, but its worth mentioning.

Aftermarket ignition?

it's a 94 gsr computer. Ignition is MSD digital 6. Rev limiter is set at 9000 on it.

I mean take out the digital ignition box and run the stock ignition. 90 percent of the time that's whats causing the problems concerning ignition.
