Default GSR/Si differential compatibility

I used to think I knew the answer to this but I'm questioning myself.

Friend has a GSR tranny with a Quaife. His coworker has a stock 99 Si trans. They want to change gearing but, obviously, he doesn't want to give up the Quaife.

Can the differentials themselves just be swapped? Or is there more to it (swap differential WITH ring gear AND countershaft)?

Thanks guys.

Justin
