Definitely check out the harness to the cluster. Sounds like you have a wire or two mixed up. My buddy did the same thing to his crx and got it to work. It took him a while but it payed off in the end.

If you move forward does the speedometer actually move as well. I had the same thing happen on mine. I had everything wired correctly, I started fresh three or four different times. Then from suggestion of a friend I removed the needle and repositioned it back to zero. Worked fine. I used a fork to pry up the needle and reposition it to zero, he stated he had removed it previously so it could have just been that. If you believe all the wiring is correct I go for it, I tried a few different configurations some led me to the same problem. Speedometer set to 40mph, sometimes both the speedometer and the tachometer, finally I removed the needle as suggested.

So neither of you are able to get past the original mph it sets at when the key is turned to the ACC position?

yeap just like that
when i turn the ignition to ACC it goes upto 50mph and stays there until i turn the car off.
i was told that its cause it needs a ground wire
could that be it Invalid?

Sorry, what I meant to say is, will the speedometer go past that set MPH when you attempt to drive the car. Mine had the same symptoms, took the car for a quick drive to determine if everything was in fact working when I drove the the speedometer would continue to move as if just positioned incorrectly. I would turn the key to the ACC position and it would come to rest at 40 MPH until I was actually moving forward.

Only problem is your civic did not come standard with VSS so you actually had to put another model VSS in your civic, correct? Mine already had VSS, I just need to connect the proper wires for it. I had some information as to one person who installed a GSR cluster from a 90s model civic and go it to work, only my recent topics will not go back far enough to find out which member it was.

The wiring diagram I used or the person who installed the VSS in the 90s civic? If you need the wire diagram I have that, but I don't recall the member who installed the VSS in his 90s civic to get this to work.
EDIT: same problem, but again not a 90s model civic

On mine I had to go the yellow blue. Again mine came stock with VSS so don't take this as gospel, but yellow blue is what I used.
i am doing the same shittt with my cluster off a 95 GSR to a 96 Civic DX
did my car came stock with VSS already or do i also need a kit.....
On DX there are no RPm's showing so will everything be functional including the rpm's/mph
