getting a new b16b... what to do?
so i'm planning on getting a b16b in the near future.. and i want to make sure that it will run good and be reliable when i put it in.. i'm ordering it from hmotorsoneline.com... i know i should change the timing belt, water pump, and tentioner.. what else should i replace? what other gaskets and misc parts should i replace/service before the motor gets dropped...any insight would be great on this.. Thanks guys...

check the clutch set..its double work to find out your clutch is slipping after you had the motor in.you might as well replace tranny oil with good fresh LSD oil..goodluck!
d16y7... i want the b16b because it's a high reving motor that would be good (in my opinion) for auto x... i want something that's gonna be balance, have lsd, be able to rev high and the b16b is the civic type r motor! who could want more... plus, from HMO where i'm getting the motor from... if i chose to get the b18c... it's gonna end up being around the same price after i get all the motor mounts bought.. so i figured eh.. b16b.. perfect. it's just my daily driver/ auto x car... i don't need it to be crazy fast so that's why i chose the b16b..
yea that would suck! thanks for the input! i was planning on puting a stage 1 exedy racing clutch kit in it.. not to spendy and it'll get the job done for my needs...

I would recommend you get the ITR engine instead of the CTR. It will make more power everywhere in the rpms and IMO be more fun than the CTR...I am currently driving around with a I/H/E B16B and while it is fun, I remember my ITR swap being faster/more fun...Both are built to handle high revs and if you take care of them, they are both plenty reliable...

b16b.. i made 185 with i h e and a tune.
Get the 1.8, you will be much happier.
But the b16b is a good engine, i got mine when i bought my car, if i had a choice, i would have gotten a 1.8.

185 whp.. would be plenty with my needs in mind.. thats why i picked the b16b..
lol nice... yea when i said b18c i was meaning the jdm gsr.. i'll end up payin about 3725 for the b16b..
I would do a hondata intake gasket while the engines is out and change the cap/ rotor/ wires
Maybe tuck some wires
Es shifter bushings the possibilities are endless and not that expensive(relatively speaking; you ARE buying a type r)

Yeah, id get the b16b also...While its out, Id do the clutch, maybe lightweight flywheel, timing belt, Hondata style intake manifold gasket..Think thats about it if your wanting to keep it relatively stock.
Have fun! It really is a blast to rip through the gears taching 9k with that close ratio tranny, especially if you have a 4.785 ITR tranny in there
Oh, I gotcha! For some reason I was thinking CTR vs.ITR

I think the stock redline is 8900 rpms, I forget...My ECU has been re-flashed so my rev limit(8900) might be different than the stock one...The ITR goes to 8400ish stock.I never ran a stock CTR ecu on my engine so I cant tell you for sure. The stock tach read a little high also so 9K onthe cluster may not really be 9K...
As far as clutches go, Ive personally only ran ACT clutches. Ive been happy with them from day 1 and never had a reason to try anything else, but thats just me. Ive heard great things about alot of other clutch companies, but never really tried them

I believe Exedy is the clutch manufacturer for Honda (OEM supplier) so if Honda thinks their quality is good enough or them, id say their pretty good too. Ive never personally heard anything bad about them. Also heard/read pretty decent stuff about SPEC clutches.
A Fastxru stated, a minor wire tuck would be pretty clean also.

i would be interested in doing a wire tuck.... but i've never done one.. how would i go about doing it? is there a writeup on it somewhere? do i have to extend wires? i would imagine so.. anyways thanks for all your help i really appriciate it!
Wire tucks look really nice and clean to me although they are alot of work..If your pretty decent with wiring and take your time, you shouldnt have any problems. Yes some lengthening of wires will be required.Fenders and bumper come off also. Some underdash work too.No trying to disuade you, but its a decent bit of work....Go for it!
Im pretty sure theres a write up somewhere.
B16B swap with a tuck would be pretty sick!
