Default General Tuning Question....Easy answer I'm sure

When tuning on a Dyno, with a Wide Band Oxygen Sensor.

Obviously the stock o2 is unplugged, thus throwing a CEL, and putting the ECU in OPEN LOOP.

Now when tuning with a AFC and a Wide Band and tuning the LO cam settings, or just cruising conditions, how can your NEW Adjusments on the AFC be any good. Because as soon as you plug back in the o2 sensor, the ECU is going to interpret the o2 signals and make its adjustments from there. And you will NOT be in Open Loop mode(o2 is plugged in now), so the settings will be no good?

Also, I think im right on this. When tuning the HI cam settings, or WOT, the ECU automatically is in open loop at WOT so your settings you made with the AFC will be 100% accurate, because while tuning with the AFC you were in Open Loop because of the o2 being unplugged. Correct?

well you are correct about the computer going into open loop at WOT. however, as far as tuning part throttle is concerned, i would stick the wide band in the tailpipe and keep the 02 in the exhaust because it does signal the computer to constantly make minor adjustments based on temperature etc.

mos dynoes put the wideband up the tail pipe unless you got a second o2 sensor bung welded in that can be used.

Of course unless your catalytic converter is there, then you are not seeing the right A/F ratio...so a test pipe would be needed!

Best bet would be to run a test-pipe or get an extra 02 bung welded into your header to allow for the wideband to see un-converted air. This would allow you to keep your stock 02 sensor, and let it do its job, while logging the a/f ratio while its doing it.
