Default Gear selector won't work, 1998 Accord

Okay,

I'm trying to fix my fiances Accord, it's a '98 EX 4cyl. To shift the gear selector you have to put in the brake. However, sometimes putting in the brake won't disengage the lock/safety on the gear selector. I have to pump the brake in and out until the safety decides to release. Every now and then I hear a "squish" or "hiss", while pumping the brake, like the master brake cylinder is acting up. But, there are no problems with the brakes and once the car is in gear there are no symptoms from the master brake cylinder.

Anyone know what I should troubleshoot here?

I'll go along with the brake pedal switch, just like the people who responded to your other thread...
