fuel pressure regulator
my car has minimal engine mods - intake and exhaust. i once read that increased fuel pressure is a good idea to compensate for the increased airflow. my car is running fine, obviously i don't NEED it, but am i lacking power by not having a fuel pressure regulator?
Best way to know when you need one would be to acquire something that allows you to monitor your A/F mixture. But as a generaly rule, you'll need to substantially increase the flow capabilities of your engine before this is a necessity. This flow increase could be in the form of cams, a good port job, or a very good intake, TB, IM, header & exhaust combo, or any combination of the three. It's really application-specific though. In my case, I had a 2.5" header collector & 2.5" piping all the way back with no cat, a 3" custom intake, & a CTR intake cam. The only reason that I needed an FPR even at this point, was because I had removed my IAB valve body which causes me to lean-out from 4400-5750. With the IAB valve body in, I was still running rich all the way through my rpm range.
