Fuel injection problem...
Well i recently bought a used minivan, a 93 toyota previa..
It ran fine for the first 5 days of ownership, except for a slight puttering upon low acceleration the sound howver came more from the exhaust then from the engine it self, but i figured it might need a tune up. I then put some fuel injector cleaner in my car on sat. after buying the car on friday...
Today on my way to work, my engine was shaking, but still accelerated up to 50-60... My wife noticed black smoke coming out of the tail pipe on my way to work.. As soon as i got to work my car shut off off when i was about to park and would not start up it would crank however would not turn over... I got it checked by a mechanic who said it was probably the ecm or fuel inector computer that is flooding the engine with too much fuel...
I was quoted from a mechanic specializing in toyota repair that it was 75 for a used computer and around half an hour for work... Im not really sure if this will be the problem however. But does anyone have an off hand diagnosis from the signs i explained? Thanks alot

Since the car's new, do you know how old the normal tune-up stuff is? You say 'tune-up' but then you only put FI cleaner in? What about plugs, cap, rotor, etc...?
Dya think the mechanic just wanted to blow you off when he said ECM or whatever? Otherwise, he either SAW that stuff was new, or he should have suggested it first.
I don't know Toyotas but some cars, when the ECT sensor is bad, it always says 'cold' even when the engine warms up. That makes it run rich, but maybe a simple fix (new sensor).

I didnt get to do the normal tune up stuff, Such as wires, plugs, rotor, cap, air filter, change oil, oil filter and so on because i was going to be working the whole week, and figured i would do it on friday afternoon but the car didnt last till tomorrow.. I know that adding the injector cleaner is not a tune up, I just didnt get to the full tune up like i expected to.. Hopefully its not a big deal, and if this mechanic fixes it i will be able to get the tune up soon after hes done.
In a perfect world, you'd do the tune-up first. Fouled plugs, bad wires, & dum stuff like that can cause trouble that's just misleading when you're looking for a real problem.
