Flywheels: Aluminum or Chromoly
um...I had an exedy chromoly for about a year. Never had a problem, and it wasn't sprung (didn't even know they made sprung flywheels.....hmmmmm.) I think it was 10 1/2 lbs? Can't really remember. I just got it for piece of mind about aluminum wheels shattering. Don't think I really ever hear it happening....but flywheel chunks through my car and maybe in my passengers ***** didn't sound like fun.

Fidanza flywheels I believe have replaceable surfaces. So instead of resurfacing the flywheel you can buy a new surface for fairly cheap and not have to replace the entire flywheel. They claim chromoly has heat issues, they develop heat cracks fairly easily.
ACT says that aluminum is not strong enough, 7lb flywheel for normal use and drag racing is not ideal, it's too lite for normal use. They have a Prolite (7 - 8lbs. road racing) and streetlite (12lbs. normal and drag racing). They usually recommend the streetlite. ACT flywheels are also one piece as opposed to Fidanza, which are multiple pieces (steel teeth, surface)

I've been running my ACT prolite chromemoly flywheel all year, daily driven 7000+ miles so far and occasional autoxing.. no problems wirth it yet, I dont expect any either, but its not like I have removed it and had it checked for wear or cracks. Sure cant beat the price for its low weight!
if you are running a ceramic face clutch...chromemolly will be your choice..as the clutch will not eat it away like aluminum or stock steel flywheel...if a organic type stock disk is what you have in mind then aluminum will be no problem for you....
also note...chromoly flywheel put dents onto the starter gear....
