Flushing brake fluid?
Ok so my brake fluid is turning black and needs to be flushed. Anyone know the "proper" way to do this? I was thinking just bleading off each caliper untill clean fluid appears. Yes? No? Let me know.
if you're using a vacuum pump then i think the sequence is right rear, left front.left rear.right front .and all you do is open the bleed screw and squeeze the trigger of vac.if you are just using a bottle have an assistant press the brake gently and you loosen screw friend gently pushes brake down hold tighten screw and repeat until no bubbles
Thanks, but i already know that
. I was wondering how i was suposed to know when i've flushed all the old fluid out. I want to compleatly flush the system and put in new fluid.

drain master cyl then re fill with fresh fluid then when youstart bleeding the system keep going till the fluid color looks like the new fluid light tan .then go to next brake and so on
if you want to clean the lines good put denatured alchohol in the master than bleed each caliper till alcohol comes out and repeat the process with brake fluid
ok, thanks alot for your help. Here is what i plan on doing. Left rear and bleed untill master cylinder is empty, put new fluid in and bleed untill new fluid is seen. Then repeat on the right front and so on. Does that sound like a good plan?

I have sort of a related question. When you install a new/used master cylinder, is it possible to do all of the bleeding on the car or is it mandatory to bench bleed it?
yes, keep pumping and have a friend refill the cylinder with fresh fluid, left rear until clean, then right front, then right rear, finally left front. Be sure to close the bleed valve on a slow down push of the pedal(so air doesn't enter)
IMHO way better the bench bleed ON CAR. No mess of brake fluid as you try to mount the MC.
BTW Vacuum setup like MityVac do NOT work on 95% of all brakes systems. You end up sucking more air past the threads on the bleeders. You can get speedbleeders for $10 each end and never have a problem again.
Nothing like doing a brake flush in 10 minutes for the whole car.

Don't you still have to have 2 people when using speed bleeders? One person to pump the pedal and another to monitor the brake fluid/refill master cylinder, etc.
What are speed bleeders, sounds like they have a valve or something that will let the fluid go out but wont flow backwards. I would think a vaccume would work on my car, it's not complicated, i don't even have abs. So ummm what should i do, i'm about to say screw it and do it the old timer way.
The brake bleeder line is attached to an air-tite bag that wont let air back in. You attach the bag, and pump the pedal yourself. That is how it is a one man job.
