Default P28 D16Y8

I’ve searched many of forums, but couldn’t find an exact answer. I’m going to boost my D16Y8 in a year or so. Because I don’t have the funds right now, my plan is to “collect” the parts I need for the boost project over the next year and install some of the parts as I get them, but only if I can use them without hurting my current setup (basic I/H/E). For my first purchase I was thinking of an ECU, maybe a P28 or the P06 with an OBD2B to OBD1 harness. Kenji211.com is recommended over at Honda-tech as a place to purchase them from.

So my question is, can I use one of these ECU’s in my current setup, just plug it in and go? Will I be hurting my performance with one of these ECU’s with the current setup? Is it recommended to have a custom VTEC engagement or just leave it? Obviously in the beginning I would like to “collect” parts that I could use now. I’m open to suggestions.

Thanks for your patience,

Jeremy
