Fender Fixing, SOHC VTECing, P/S converting....OH my!
Ok guys,
Well it was drving my beater 91 CRX Si back from work yesterday and it hit me that I'm really starting hate driving this car as compared to my 88 HF monster(sig car)......
It's been hit in the rear mildy(enough to buckle the passenger fender). The hatch doesn't seal all the way now, so the allready nasty exhaust note is even louder in the cabin. Whoever had the car before me rebuilt the engine or head i'm not sure which, but they didn't get the head gasket on right, so it leaks oil, making the engine compartment a mess.
So I started brain storming, thinking of things I could do to make my car nicer overall. Here are a few things I came up:
Phase 1: Body Repair -
First-off get the body fixed, fender pulled, frame straightened. And Have it painted. I think this will do alot forthe feeling i get from driving the car. Knowing it actually looks good from both sides. ...Side note, what color? Currently it's honda tahitian green. I was think of having it painted white or black, but I do like the stock color.
Phase 2: Mini-me -
Next pull the SI head off and replace it with a Z6 head. This'll give me abit more power, and I figure make the car funner to drive. I'll be able to replace that damn leaking head gasket and clean up the engine bay at the same time. 2 birds with 1 stone. Maybe i'll throw on a header, and cheap-o intake at the same time.
Phase 3: Si w/ P/S? -
An off the wall idea I came up with was to convert my 91 Si's streering rack over to the power-assisted style from the DX/LX models. I just thought that it would be pretty cool to have P/S on the Si. I mean it's not a racer, it my daily driver, so i'd like it to be comfy. The Mini-Me conversion should more than make up for the P/S drain, power wise.
Let me know what you guys think. I'm really interested in your opinions. I've been funneling all my money and time into the signature car, and negelecting my daily. Now she needs some TLC. I'm going by a few places today to get estimates on how much it'll be to fix the body. I figure while it's in the shop getting the body fixed I can be gathering the parts for the rest of the project.
Thanks all
Steven
