Default failed emissions. need help

<----- little brother

hi, i went to go get my car inspected today and i failed. i apssed all the saftey stuff except the emissions.

the (transient test) is another name for it i guess.

Pollutant: Reading: Limit:
HC GPM - 1.47 - 1.20
CO GPM - 21.92 - 20.00
NOx GPM - 2.71 - 2.50
CO2 GPM - 194.09

i failed all of those and thast why they failed me. can anyone tell me how to fix these problems? the guy suggested i do a tune up and and bring it to a mechanic or osemthing. (funds are kinda low for me right now) its a 95 civic cx. all stock. any help will be greatly appreciated.

New cap, rotor, spark plugs, check the plug wires, oil change, check the timing. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Looks like it is running rich, but hot(possibly timing too far advanced). ANd BTW, use the lowest octane gas when you take the test, and get the car HOT, the cat only works when hot.

If none of that solves the problem then check your catalytic converter.

your numbers aren't that much over the limit, so you don't really need to do too much. if you do these two things, i can almost guarentee you'll pass emissions. first, drive your car really hard to get to inspection, then keep your rpms at about 3k while waiting in line, that'll keep your o2 sensor and cat nice and hot, since they only work when hot. second, instead of running straight gas, run gas and alcohol. the alcohol burns totally clean (only produces co2 and water) and really reduces your emissions.

If all else fails, move to FL. We don't have emissions anymore.

Congratulations,Yeah, unfortunately I'm a self proclaimed expert on the subject, due to living in CA and always modding every car I own, especially modding old beaters.
