failed emissions again :(
Well for the second time now I have failed emissions. This time the dude said I was to rich. I have an obdo b16 in my crx with only bolt ons. I failed for hydrocarbons which the legal limit was 220ppm and I had 349 ppm. Just looking for any suggestions on what to check out in order to pass, I have a brand new cat converter and one of my oxygen sensors is new, also no check engine lights odviously. thanks

well even bolt ons can make it fail, check if you have the proper vacuum line routing, i suggest stock exhaust manifold and stock air box if you really want to pass

ok this may sound silly but how long has it been since the last oil change ?
also can you post your results so we can see all the reading's
is your test run on a dnyo or stand alone ?

Have you tried retarding your timing a little, also make sure it's warmed up
drive it for like an hour or so. How do they test cars there, do they use a dyno.
They used dynos here for a while now they just check it at idle. good luck

I have not tried to retard it yet. I probably will though. They were going to get it on the dyno I believe but it was raining and my tires were wet. and I was spinning trying to get it on there. I also believe the header was preventing it from getting on there because my car is lowered and the F*c* heads tryed to put me on the 4x4 one. So I did the 2500rpm throttle test and the idle test. Iam pretty sure it failed the idle test, car idles at about 1000. header is dented up if that would make a difference? Oxygen sensors are welded in the correct location for an odb0 car. thanks for input.

how old are the injectors? I have experienced injectors leaking causing HC to be high. Easy fix, send them in to be cleaned. Also what octane were you running?

Re: (jchrm80)
give us the rest of the readings, high hc readings alone is not necessarly a rich condition. What was your co readings like. Ill assume you did the two speed idle test, what was your readings for hc and co at idle and 2500. Did you replace the cat with a oem, reason i ask is because i see cars fail on daily basis due to a brand new aftermarket catalyst

yeah its a kteller custom cat... sure hope thats not the problem. I always use 91 octane. The other test results were for CO which the states limit is 1.20 PCT and I had 0.77 PCT which passed odviously. they must not have tested for NOx because on the sheet it says N/A for all the the results, unless I did not make it that far. I will look into the injectors. When I first put this engine in the injectors were the reason it did not start. So I took it to a reputable shop and they replaced them. Iam not sure if they replaced all of them but if they didnt then that would probably be a problem. I was told the ones that came with the jdm engine were "fried because the japanese use shitty gas". Hope some of this info helps. thanks
