I also failed on ignition timing which was 14btdc

I went home and set the ignition timing back to stock spec (18btdc) and got 1 step colder spark plugs. When I went back to the smog place for my free retest the guy told me it's not gonna help and urged me to get a diagnostic. Should I just get the retest done anyways? He lost credibility when he told me timing doesnt effect nox.
