Default F&H series OBX LSD evaluation

Since there's so much debate on the OBX LSD i m going to do a review of the H22 OBX LSD.

I recieved the unit this morning, had to pay 349 euro's (about $415-$420)

Theres no label on the box telling wich LSX is in the box...su i can (for now) only assume that its the H22 one.

Overall the unit looks good, u can tell it isent A-grade, but its ok. I will check tollerances later this week. (Depends on the availabilety of the 3d Mitutoyo)

Decent box and over sufficiant oiling

The finishes look good, altough there's a lil bit of light surface damage on one of the milled sides (this wont affect opperation)

I tried to take a few pix of the splines, will take measurements to see it there is any problem with the fitment of the axles

It didnt seem to bother the dog....

Anyway, if anyone can give me the torquespex of the bolts that would be great. Then ill be able to take the thing apart and inspect the internals.

ANY tips/advices are welcome.

And please dont tell me that i had to buy the Quaife LSD, i made the choice to buy this one KNOWING wouldent meet up to their standards. Im aware of the risk.

The LSD is made by:

http://www.advancedmanufacturinggroup.com/

that company seems to do business with pretty well known customers

I'm about to install a OBX LSD into a GSR trans.

i took it apart just for the hell of it and everything looked ok..... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1381146

i do believe the torque specs for the allen key head bolts are about 40ft/lbs but thats for a quaife.......i simply torqued them to 40 along with some loctite.

i don't know why everyone is having issues with axles getting stuck...i managed to insert both axles into the diff and they both came out easily.....the passengers side is a little tricky since the C clip holds it in place but even in the stock diff it's held in by the C clip.

friend has one on his h22 EG, he pulls 1.6 60fts...thats pretty damn good in my book for a street car. No LSD problems....I think OBX only had problems with the first series of LSD made and they have since corrected the problem at their manufacturing facilities................

i can't fix those pics since we-todd-did racing who is hosting the pictures is doing a server upgrade..

i think they should be working in a couple days.

on another side note i just finished installing the OBX LSD into the tranny today. everything went in smoothly.....all clearances checked out ok and everything fits nice but it will be a few more weeks before i can test it out since my engine is currently being re-built.

a little tip for the do it yourselfers.....be EXTREMELY careful when trying to remove the speedo gear from the stock diff. its VERY thin and can easily crack if you don't have the right tool/puller. AND to top it all off if you do brake it you CANNOT buy one from the dealer. it's part of the whole differential

well, i have had my share of OBX problems with the diff...i had to bring it to 3 shops to get it fixed. The last shop was finally able to hammer out the axle (c-clip snapped, FINALLY). That was the first batch of lsd and the problem should be fixed...and im pretty sure that company is not the one that supplies the LSD for OBX. I can comfirm it soon, hopefully

But hey, there are some many companies that import the same things so who knows........

Thanks for that tip non vtec, luckely i have a spare diff so i can screw it up once lol. How did u check the clearances? My workshopmanual tells me to measure the torque that it takes to rotate the diff in the tranny casing.

My engine is ready to be swapped in, just waiting on my turbo to arrive, so i can do a manifold mockup be4 she's in the car.

@ mattcivic; huwmuch hp are u making?

@
Supah_Eg6; could u find out exactly WHY the axle got stuck? and what the shop did to fix this problem. Backup of the real manufacturer would be nice.

Anyways, i have a spare busted tranny that im using to practice on.

Here's some pix of my car (photoshopped rims) and engine;

more to find here:

Hope to do the swap within 2 weeks or so

I have a OBX LSD in my SOHC race car.
I love it no problems
It handles the 6K clutch dumps well.
Axles come out fine

wow i never seen a accord like that........looks very good

the only specs my service manual says to check is the clearance between the diff bearing race and the case. you measure with feeler gauges through the passengers side axel hole between the bearing and the shim installed on the case.

if you search around honda-tech you will find out what I'm talking about.....some people complain that the OBX diff is slightly larger so they have to modify the shim in the case (grind it down) to achieve the correct clearance specs.

i had to shave my shim down just a little to make the clearance just right. it took like 1 minute to do it was no big deal and everything fit good.

I'm not sure how different the H22 tranny case and bearings are compared to a B-series tranny so you might not even have to do this at all....

good luck

p.s. use torches/heat to remove that speedo ring gear from the stock diff.......

My friends just kept hammer the other side of the axle until the tip of the axle gave in and warpped...allowing the C-clip to snap. But remember, there was TWO other previous shops that were doing the same hammering...Imagine how long it will take if your did the hammering straight on...could be quite awhile....
I can get proof on which shops developes the LSD for OBX but I can say its not that shop. But maybe that shop made your LSD...are you sure you bought an obx lsd?

**CHECK**

I ussed a big *** press and a tourch.. wasent a hard task to get ot off.

I did the search already, but my honda manual tells me not to check clearances. I should measure the torque it takes to revolve the dif... oh well

@Supah_Eg6;

yeah im sure its an OBX one, it says so on the box.
he box also states in small letters; advanced manufacturing group so i guess thats where its made
