Default Extrude Honing IM

Alright befor any of you guys say it's not worth it just get it ported or buy a new IM, let me tell you this is not for a B series manifold.

I want to get my OEM K24a2 (tsx) mani extrude honed. No one really makes aftermarket intake manifolds for the K series yet...

The manifold is a big long runner design that actuall may not even be able to be cut open and ported. this mani should be good for some mid range torque over one of the K20 manifolds, but I want it to flow as good as possible.

So who do you guys know that does it and what kind of gains have been seen?

Alsdo some one said something about it not being good for velocity (that doesn't make much sense to me? ), and that it hurt atomization (I can kind believe that since everything would be smoother and less turbulant the fuel would not mix as well)...

what do you guys think? I would appreciate some experience over opinions...

I think the loss of velocity theory comes from the idea that if your manifold is too smooth, the air sort of sticks to the walls forming this layer of stagnant air that enginerds like to call a boundry layer. From what I understand the best flowing manifolds have a little bit of surface roughness to keep this from happening, and a consistent cross section (tapered or not). correct me if I'm wrong at all. Personally I'm not a fan of the process, it seems gimicky. Good luck with your mani!

Extrude hone will increase volume but not necessarily increase flow.It sounds like you may have a good candidate for the process. It worked wonders on early fuel injected mustangs before performance manifolds were everywhere.I don't believe it will hurt unless the manifold has to much volume already (which I doubt).

extrude hone works just fine...they have a handle on grit of the media and end result surface-finish to promote atomization and keep anything from inhibiting flow/ performance. Similar to porting, it's an artform that is more than just blasting paste thru there to hog out the spaces....

it's a strong alternative to getting a new manifold...

it's a tad expensive tho.

have you looked in to the price of a K swap?

thanks for the advice guys... I think I will be going this route, I'kk try and get some dyno comparisons and post them up...
