Default exhaust question

if you have/had experience installing a Tanabe Medallian catback exhaust on an
GS-R please let me know or if you have one and did not install it. the reason being, i just got one for my 98' gsr and realized that both of the downpipes are about an 1'' too long. i know on the box it also said 2door, so i did't even consider that it possibly was for a 4door...so, my question is: does this sound familiar? most exhaust just bolt right up, so no cutting should be neccesary, but if i use this exhaust, I'll have to cut about an inch out of each pipe. will this be a hassel? i really don't want to take back exhaust if i can aviod it.

what do you mean by downpipe? You are just referring to the exhaust and not a header right?

It is possible that it is for a 4 door I would think. an exhaust shop could shorten the piping to fit and it shouldn't cost but $30 or so.

yes, the pipe that conects after the header and cat. and the L shapped pipe that bends. they only need about an inch cut out of each. what really concerned me was how its going to suck to cut up a brand spanking new exhaust that's never been installed, but if there'e no other way around it, i guess i have to settle. one more thing, say i do cut the pipes and reweld them back together. besides looking ugly, something like this shouldn't effect performance or strenght of exhaust right? or rust? that considering a good welding job will be done.
