Default Exhaust Mess

What would cause this mess out of the exhaust? It wipes up real easy with a little simple green. Thanks.

That looks pretty normal for exhaust pointed straight at a wall

This started immediately after I swapped in the H22A1. My guess is oil is getting past the piston rings, but I have excellent compression (means rings are good right)? I'm mostly concerned about my cat getting clogged up.

X2

Probably just moisture build up in the exhaust when the engine is started, mixes with the carbon in the exhaust and blows out..so it would just be black water, probably why it cleans up so easily. I wouldn't worry about it.

No, that is not true. A compression test will tell you nothing about your oil control rings. The purpose of the oil control rings is to control oil - not to seal compression.

I guess I could have Googled it first. It looks like having good compression across the board indicates valves, head gasket, and rings are good. It makes pretty good sense that if the rings can keep air from passing by, it should keep oil from doing the same.

No, this is not true. While compression rings do scrape a tiny amount of oil off the walls, it is an insignificant amount. If you took the oil control rings off the piston and reassembled the engine you would have great compression (one purpose of oil is to help seal the compression rings) but it would burn oil like crazy with tons of smoke pouring out the tailpipe. The purpose of the oil control rings is to scrape the oil off the wall of the cylinder. There are holes drilled (or slots cut) in the ring land for the oil control ring where the oil that is scraped can drain through. Compression ring lands do not have holes drilled behind them. If they did, they would not seal. Compression rings work because the gas pressure of combustion gets around the top of the ring and pushes the ring out toward the cylinder wall. If there were drain holes in the compression ring land this could not happen.
