which engine would be best?
in a del sol
h22a vs b18c1
i've been reading alot of posts from this website and others as well. now are some questions:
1. why is the h22a so much cheaper for a complete swap than the b18c1? it produce more torque/hp.
2. i hear because of the weight/height and fabricating axles/suspension, the h22a would not be a great choice. it also rubs the chassis of the deL soL?
3. does the b18c1 have more OVER-ALL potential than the h22a?
what would you people pick? and those of you who have done either, please share experiences such as driving, handling, maintaining, good, bad, etc... thank you

Depending on what platform you use the H22 you might see unwanted axle angles. I think you said delsol? The rubbing on the chassis...I would call which ever mount company that you are going to use and ask them about it.
As far as potential...the h22 would eat a C1 alive in stock form, however, as you begin to build internally, C1 blocks will become more reliable and more stable because of factors such as Rod ratio and mainly the crank. I would (personally) drop a C1 into my chassis as there is less quess work and truely more potential. Also, there are far more tranny options available for b series motors.....
unless you get one of those tranny adapter plates but I've never seen them in action so I have no experience.
I say, get a C1 block, drop in an LS crank and have it sleeved and bore it to 86mm. That is a good street weapon.
Then, you'll **** torque all over h22 civics/integras/PReludes.

That would be a great option. I've seen 300 hp pulled from a b1 motor in stock form (internally). I can provide great engine management for that app also.
b20 blocks is you dont wanna spend the money to bore- every one talks bad about their sleeves being so weak but ive boosted 8 psi for over a year no problem ! but b18b blocks are good to just less bore less displacement -
The problem with b20 blocks are the sleeves. Most of the time you'll be ok boosting 8psi on a cracked-sleeved block. When the inner sleeve has a height difference with the lower sleeve the potential for Sleeve-cracking is present. I agree that the b20 block would be a better route to go but find on in good condition will be the harder part. For info on b20 build ups, visit http://www.theoldone.com and go into "Articles."
