engine won't start after rebuild
Just finished putting my engine back together (94 GSR) and she wont start. The engine and starter move, but there is a slight oddness to the way the engine is turning, it turns too smooth (or sounds like it is), not like the typical lurch and whine of the starter, but rather a smooth whine of the starter and the only time there is a pitch difference in the starter is when there is a releif of compression when the valves open.
I've double checked my timing, even made sure I wasnt 180 off, it sounds like I am getting fuel since I can hear the pump for miles and my friend could hear the injectors kick on.

you piston rings could be fucked... there was NO compression? like 0? are you sure you checked it correctly?

dude, these are new rings, snug fit, within spec. I also had oil sitting in the cylinders for a couple of days with no leaks. And when I say no compression, the needle didnt even jump, i tested it at WOT. You can also hear that the engine had no compresison when it was turning over.
no compression = one of your valves is open. Check your valve lash, make sure the cams are correctly oriented (up, lining up the marks on the gear on the rear timing belt cover, make sure the timing belt tensioner is correctly adjusted.
Check the compression gauge too, it might be broken. Zero is pretty hard to believe.
