Default Engine tuning question

there are alot of people who seem very knowledgable about hondas, anyhow i have a 99 ek and i have a jdm b18c5 not in it yet its sitting in the garage, the entire swap...my question is ive always read that type rs are not that good for a turbo application and its cause they are already a high compression motor, so does that mean my best route would be going N/A initially thats what i was going to do but now i want to ask all you guys whats the best thing to do with my current motor? n/a is a cool idea but its expensive and doesnt have a the awesome sound of a bov from a turbo haha, and you usually cant get the times that a turbo could as easily. thanks for helping me out.

Anybody who says you shouldn't boost an ITR motor doesn't really know what they're talking about. There are people putting over 300 horses to the ground on a bone stock ITR motor with good tuning and relatively mild boost. Everything depends upon the tuning though. If your tuning is perfect, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about when running a turbo.

The Type R motors already comes with Nitride treated pistons, and better rods than other Honda's. They also have increased compression. The general assumption is that more compression is bad for boost, but this is wrong. More compression is good for horsepower, and even more so when under boost. Too much boost is a different story, if you're running the classic FMU/missing link combo for fuel management then 8 psi is really too much boost, however if you are running a fully tuned system like AEM or Hondata, then 10 or 11 psi really isn't too much. It all depends upon the tuning.

b18c race engines have been being built up by several companies to 700+ HP with turbo. i am just curious if they could make that in a nice little road racing package....

running a turbo is adding compression, so having a higher static compression is only going to give you that much more power (tuned). as for FI vs. NA it really a mater of prefferance, you can runn the same time on an NA setup with say 200whp as an 300whp turbo car depending on the setup. i'll addmit the SFX that come from a turbo motor are quite sexy though.
in addition, FMUs are for idiots and tightwads
