engine surging after build help please
ok i gotta be quick but i just reinstalled my gsr engine after having it built and went to start it up for break in and it idles real high like 3 grand and then after about 10 to 20 sec it starts surging from about 800 to 3000 rpm checked vac diagram and everything is correct i kinda think it might be a coolant issue but i need some more info/input any help would be awsome thanks guys
edit: car is a 5 speed 94 ls with a 95 gsr swap

ok when i got home today i squeezed the radiator hoses and they feel soft like theres air in the system. i pulled the therm housing and coolant poured out so its got coolant in the engine and when i let it run for a little the coolant in the radiator gets warm so i know its flowing but it still feels like theres air in it and i have followed the bleed proceedure according to haynes but i cant seem to get the hoses to firm up any.
also when its surging, when it gets to the low side (800-1000) of the event i can hear a hissing from the back of the IM which i suspect could be a vac leak but i dont feel any leaks or hear any differences in the noise when im feeling around back there and i dont see any lines disconected.
i have gone over everthing i can think of anything else that it could be. all electrical connections are coneected with the exception of the cruise control box and abs module wich are removed. the engine ran fine in june when i took the engine out. this i driving me crazy and i have less than week till i have to drive this thing to my new house.,. any ideas where else i can look or what the hissing/vac leak sound is (that wasnt there before)

holy **** i feel like a dumb ***...
ok after doing some searching through all the surging posts i came accross a tip to cover the tb with my hand to check for vac leaks (great idea btw) so after almost sucking my palm through the IM the engine stoped surging and idled and i narrowed the vac leak down. turns out (which ill be blaming this on my girlfriend helping me lol) some how some way the TB gasket was put on 180* upside down, which fit but left a small gap at the top=vac leak
