Default Engine Smoking Assesment ( + 1 other question )

Ok, a while back I stated i was looking into buying a early 90s ( 1991 ) Accord. I went to check it out a few days ago. The car is in pretty " ok " shape. The only problem is that the engine smokes. According to the current owner, it is a messed up piston. Why? Well, on startup it doesn't smoke, but after a minute the smoke is somewhat white but not a plumeing white smoke. However, give it a few minutes and the smoke dies down. And when driving, it smokes, but is not horrible. Does htis sound like something is wrong with the piston ring or something else? I mean, the engine is pretty strong as is. No noises, and when we drove it ( automatic ) it drove well and engine still had tons of power it felt like. So, what do all you experts think?

p.s. This car has a rebuitl salvage title. This means it was in an accident. however, to have that title, doesn't it have to be fixed then inspected? Not a huge deal as this is onyl a beater until my kit-car arrives then it is a donor parts car.
