Engine rebuild question
ok, got my engine most way apart.
gonna get my cylinders bored for the .20 over pistons.
I have a quick question about putting things back together.
What is the easiest way to make sure the crank and cams are correctly aligned. The Helms manual does not address that issue well. Any good techniques someone can describe?
Thanks!

Assuming everything's already been put together except the timing belt.
Use the oil pump housing marking to key the crankshaft to TDC in conjunction with the hook tool from your car jack tools. Stick the tool into cylinder #1 and crank it so that it sits at the top of its stroke. Don't worry, it's long enough to not fall into the cylinder....even then the hook would be too big to fit through the spark plug hole.
Set the camgears to cylinder #1 TDC. SM will show you how with the arrows pointing up and hte little side marks lined up to each other and the back timing belt cover.
From there, put on the timing belt.
Another question for anybody that knows, b/c I'm just trying to make sure I haven't screwed things up on my car.......
Is TDC the same for compression and exhaust strokes? Or, are they different? I'm guessing they're the same....right?

BTW, don't forget to key the distributor to TDC #1.
Take off the cap of the distributor and point the rotor towards the bottom left corner (when you're looking at the distributor rotor). You can confirm this by looking at the distributor cap with you wires on the cap. The #1 spark plug wire goes into that corner.
It's very important that you also set align the distributor with the intake cam properly b/c the keys are asymmetrical. If you interlock them backwards, you'll break a chunk outta the intake cam and/or the distributor key.....if not at least bend it.
