engine questions, headgasket, piston slapping head.
took my car to the track and blew the headgasket completly out in one spot o-ring and all. so i pulled the head, nothing looked to bad phyiscally then i noticed cylinder 3, the pistons slapped the head a little and has a ring around the outside of it that is lower than the rest of the pistons. the head is ok in those areas, no markings except where the headgasket blew, the water jacket hole around the rim in one spot sunk or melted and dropped a little and it will affect the seal the next time i try to use the head so regardless ill prolly take my valve train and put it into another b16a head casting. cylinder 3 may have hit harder when i spun a rod bearing a few weeks ago and changed out the rods and the bearings, but i didnt notice anything with that piston because it was all black with soot and ****. So thats my issues so far. Block needs to be decked(i didnt deck it when i installed).

I don't like to go less than .030" of piston to head clearance on anything that is going to see much rpm.Zero deck w/.029" (stock) is as tight as I would go.If the pistons are above the deck with a stock gasket your too tight. The Helm's gives the thickness of a stock head (deck to valve cover surface).I don't have the spec handy.Do you know why the head gasket blew?
