Engine oil dipstick and oil leval qustion
Yesterday I was reading my haynes manual, I have the helms to, but I was just read this for fun. Well yesterday I read that, 1 quart of oil raise the leval from the lower dipstick hole to the top one. If this was true, would'nt the car only take 2 quarts to fill it up ? I know its a dumb question, but I was just thinking and I had nothing else to do. I am guessing the haynes manual is alittle off. So what do you guys think ? I was just thinking, who would follor the haynes manual for this, I guess just fill it up intill its good.

You're thinking too much. The dipstick does not go all the way to the bottom of the oil pan. It 'dips' into the oil. It takes at least two quarts just to reach the stick, if that's what you're asking. You need at least 3.75 quarts of oil for an oil and filter change. Afterwards, run the engine briefly. Let the oil drain back to the pan a few minutes. Pull the stick and check the level. Add more if you are below the full mark. The distance between the high and low marks, (roughly one quart), can be used to estimate how much to add.
