Default engine hp, wheel hp, etc..

you know watching like F1 races of Euro touring car racing, they say the cars have, example, the BMW has 500 brake horsepower...does that mean horsepower at the brakes? so that would be basically the same thing as horsepower to the wheel?

I'm pretty sure yea, I don't see how power would be going to the brakes besides when they are applied to stop the wheels which have X hp.

brake horsepower is the measurement of power at the flywheel on an engine dyno. it's measured before the engine is put into the car and does not account for drivetrain losses. it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual brakes in the car.

r u sure? anyone else know about this subject? then why would they say the word "brake" horsepower?
