Default engine definitions

i dont wana sound like a noob at this but i am to the import engine building.ive done many chevys in my day even done some racing roundy rounds..but i wana soak up all i can...wut are the engine definitions. i guess what i mean is i have a d16y7=non vtec 16 valve.. and also wut is a LMA and such. i know this post is kinda crazy but id really like to learn this..im tring to get into the imports..with my wife buying me a 97 2door dx civic. i want to learn all i can. thanks ahead of time for the replys.

LMA = Lost Motion Assembly - It's basically a spring. Honda VTEC motors have an extra rocker for VTEC that isn't engaged most of the time, so without any pressure from the valve spring on the rocker you need something to keep a little tension on it to stop it from flopping around. That's what the LMA is for.

I used to build Chevys, but now only do Hondas, they are fun little cars.
