engine choppy at 4k

engine choppy at 4k
hey guys i have a eg with a 01 itr swap and it didnt come witha ecu and i know they come with p73's but i was told it should run fine with a p72 so i got a obd-1 p72 and it idles finebut at about 4k it gets choppy....so i was wondering if i would need to get a p73, or maybe a obd-2 p72 ...any help would be great thx.
